How to install PQRS printer port (Windows 7 Instructions:)
 
These are the steps that will install a 'text printer'; this is necessary to generate a file that holds all patient baseline information.

All steps that require your action are in bold.

  1. Open printer configuration via Windows Start menu
    a.
    Click Start (@ lower left of Windows Desktop)
    Option screen should appear in lower left of screen
    b. Click "Devices and Printers"
     
  2. The "Add printer" screen will ask 'choose a printer port'.    
    a. Scroll through the menu (where is displays 'LPT1') and select 'FILE'
    b. Click next

     
  3. The "Add a printer wizard" will ask 'install printer software'.    
    a.
    In left panel (labeled 'Manufacturer') Scroll through & highlight 'GENERIC'
    b. In right panel (labeled 'Printers): Highlight printer named "Generic/Text Only" in the list of Printers
    c. Click Next
    d. Screen 'Type printer name'  will appear
    e. Type in 'PQRS printer' and click next

     
  4. The window "Printer sharing" will appear
    a. Click "Do Not share" 
    b. Click Next
     
  5. A menu will appear that will allow you to select this printer as your Default Printer.
    a. Select No to this option
    It will ask if you want to print a test page,
    b. Select YES
    c. Click Finish

You are now set up in Windows with the Generic/Text Only printer.
