These are the steps that will install a 'text
printer'; this is necessary to generate a file that holds all
patient baseline information.All steps
that require your action are in bold.
- How to get to printer
configuration screen:
- "Click on Control
Panel" At the bottom left corner of this window
- Control panel will
appear
a. Choose View device and printers (Under Hardware and Sound)
b. "Devices and printers" will appear
c. Click "Add printer"
d. Computer will scan for printer. It will take time.
Get a cup of coffee.
e. Click on "The printer that I want isn't listed"
- "Add printer" screen
will appear
a. Choose 'use an existing port' and
click next
b. Scroll through the menu (where is displays 'LPT1') and
select
'FILE'
b. Click next
- The "Add
printer" will ask
'Install the printer driver'.
a. In left panel (labeled
'Manufacturer') Scroll through
& highlight 'GENERIC'
b. In right panel
(labeled 'Printers): Highlight printer named
"Generic/Text Only"
in the list of Printers
c. Click Next
d. Screen 'Type printer name' will
appear
e. Type in 'PQRS printer' and click next
- The window "Printer
sharing" will appear
a. Click "Do Not share"
b. Click Next
- A menu will appear that will allow you to
select this printer as your Default Printer.
a. Select No to this
option
It will ask if you
want to print a test page,
b. Select
YES
c. "Save print output as" window appears
d. Tell where you want the files to go:
Click on 'Downloads' (near upper left of this window)
e. Under "File name" (near bottom of this window) Type
'PQRSTEST1'.
f. Click Finish
g. Use windows explorer to look into
directory DOWNLOADS and verify that PQRSTEST1 is there
You are now set up in Windows with the
Generic/Text Only printer.
