How to install a "PQRS PRINTER" (Windows XP Instructions:)
 
These are the steps that will install a 'text printer'.

All steps that require your action are in bold.

  1. Open printer configuration via Windows Start menu
    a.
    Click Start (@ lower left of Windows Desktop)
    Option screen should appear in lower left of screen
    b. Click "
    Printers and Faxes" (or "Printers and Faxes" or "Devices and Printers")
     
  2. "Printers" screen should appear
    a.
    Double-click "Add a printer" icon.
        The "Add a printer wizard" will appear
    b. Click Next
     
  3. The "Add a printer wizard" will ask how this printer is to be attached.    
      a. S
    elect Local Printer 
      b. Uncheck "Automatically detect..."

      c. Click next
     
  4. The "Add a printer wizard" will ask 'select a printer port'.    
    a. Click 'Local Port'
    b. Scroll through the menu (where is displays 'LPT1') and select 'FILE'
    c. Click next

     
  5. The "Add a printer wizard" will ask 'install printer software'.    
    a.
    In left panel (labeled 'Manufacturer') Scroll through & highlight 'GENERIC'
    b. In right panel (labeled 'Printers): Highlight printer named "Generic/Text Only" in the list of Printers
    c. Click Next
     
  6. A menu will appear that will allow you to select this printer as your Default Printer.
  7. a. Select No to this option
    b. Click Next.
     
  8. The Add a printer wizard will ask if you want to print a test page,
    a. Select YES, 
    b. You will be asked for file name.  Type  PQRSTEST1
    b. Click Finish

You are now set up in Windows with the Generic/Text Only printer.
