QCDR PQRS Guide for Podiatrists

Starting in 2013, Physicians’ Quality Reporting System (PQRS) is a mandatory program for reporting to CMS (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid), and penalties will now be imposed on non-reporting Medicare professional providers, including Podiatrists. 

In 2014, CMS began a new PQRS reporting program: The Qualified Clinical Data Registry (QCDR).  As an evolution of traditional PQRS reporting methods (such as Claims or Qualified Registries), QCDR reporting offers the following advantages to Medicare providers:

1. QCDRs have inherent processes that integrate more easily with the workflow of the Podiatrists, including those who do not use EHRs.

2.  QCDR reporting does not have many of the restrictions inherent in the legacy PQRS reporting methods; Using the QCDR enables providers to greatly improve the success rate of their PQRS report process. (as opposed to >50% failure rate for legacy PQRS Claims reporting.  See details)

3. As a partner with a professional organization, a QCDR can create measures relevant to a provider’s specialty.  For example, NQF measure 0105 - Antidepressant Medication Management (AMM) can be proposed as a QCDR specific measure to help fulfill PQRS reporting requirements of a mental health professional. 

4. The PQRS submission generated by a QCDR on behalf of a Podiatrists contains only the population statistics of the patient panel chosen by the Medicare provider.
